Washington,
D.C. - Lambda Theta Alpha, Latin Sorority Inc. (LTA), encourages all to help in
the fight against childhood cancer. For the month of March, LTA will help raise
donations for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital® the nation's top ranked
children's cancer hospital, via the newly established www.stjude.org/lta website. All donations will
go directly to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, in an effort for this
hospital to continue its life saving research and treatments.
Last year, LTA became an official collegiate
partner to St. Jude, becoming the first individual Latino Greek organization to
commit fully to the hospital's efforts. With this partnership, LTA will provide
our resources of community service and activism and more importantly, another
direct link to the Hispanic community for St. Jude. LTA has pledged to raise
awareness about childhood cancer and St. Jude in the Latin community, as well
as fundraise for the hospital through a variety of events and programs.
We are asking all to join in on the fight
against childhood cancer. Your donations will make a difference in the lives of
many children and their families.
Alpha Delta Graduate Chapter's philanthropy is St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. In addition to this online campaign, Alpha Delta Graduate Chapter is actively participating in community service activities that benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Maritza Gonzalez (FA07 L4 #2) is featured in the current issued of the Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education article, The Scholars Corner. Below is an excerpt of the article. Congratulations Maritza “In March 2008, I had the privilege to be selected as one of 25 Graduate Fellows from across the nation to attend the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education’s (AAHHE’s) second annual conference, "Building Pathways-Construyendo Caminos: Fulfilling Expectations." As a Fellow,
I had the opportunity to meet some of the most intelligent, passionate
and committed Latino/a graduate students, faculty members, and
administrators. Since our conference, three graduate Fellows have
already completed their doctorate degrees proving the conference theme
to hold true while inspiring the remaining Fellows in our journey.
Additionally, the conference provided countless workshops that
supported us both academically and professionally. The energy, sense
of community, and empowerment created through AAHHE was truly an
incredible experience; it transcended the conference and transformed
each of us into ambassadors of change to filter our respective campus,
student and professional organizations and communities.” Please visit our our Media
section to download an Adobe Acrobate PDF version of the article. |

Gina Garcia (SP04) is featured in the current issued of Diverse Issues in Higher Education Magazine article, The Next Big Thing to Family. Below is an excerpt of the article. Congratulations Gina! Sorority participation pays personal dividends for most who join,
says Gina García, retention coordinator in the College of Natural
Sciences and Mathematics at California State University, Fullerton, and
the author of a 2005 study on Hispanic student participation in
Hispanic sororities.
“The Latina sorority becomes a support group,” says García, whose
survey of more than 300 students across the country found membership
helped the students with their social adjustment to college life and
boosted their commitment to their schools, both important factors in
deciding whether to stay in school.
“There are women who get family resistance, and the sorority
provides them contacts and connections who know what they are going
through,” says García. “If you are going to a school out in the Midwest
that’s majority White, you are looking for a cultural connection,”
García explains. Please visit our our Media section to download an Adobe Acrobate PDF version of the article or visit Diverse Issues in Higher Education Online to read more about Upsilon Chapter and LTA at http://diverseeducation.com/artman/publish/article_11702.shtml.
